The Wheels are Back On and Chugging Right Along

 

I had come close to giving up on the Cubs.  I expected a monumental melt-down.  And until last Wednesday, we had no reason to not expect that meltdown.  I mean…swept by the Astros at home, then lose 2 of 3 in Cincy and then losing the opener to the Cardinals.  This is it, right?  The new ’69? 

Hell no.  These boys in blue came back with a vengeance and within days, have the magic number down to 4.  That’s right, if the Cubs can sweep the Brewers this week, we have won the division and the Brewers will be 11 games behind us and most likely out of the wild card chase.  In three consecutive games,

My introduction to Cubbie fandom is probably a bit less traditional than most. I didn’t come from a lineage of Cubs fans that dates to their start as the White Stockings. I haven’t suffered long. My father was a football and basketball guy who lived to hate the Hawkeyes and loved the Bulls and my farm-raised grandfather had difficulty understanding “why these guys got paid to play baseball”.

Cubs Announcers

I had a conversation with my Aunt and Uncle (Manstrength’s parents) over the weekend and they both expressed that they can’t stand Len and Bob as announcers.  I have never thought of them as bad announcers or annoying,

The Cubs are (not) on TV

Well, ESPN can’t be blamed for this, but tonight the Cubs are not on TV outside Chicagoland.  Every once in a while, when the games are only on WCIU, our local cable company will throw the game

1984

Ok, so I know that the title is actually also to the name of a book.. but I’m going with it anyway. You see, 1984 was the year I was born.. and those of you who know your Cubbie shtick, you know that the Cubs had an amazing ’84 season. Being born in the same year that they had that great of a year, I gotta admit.. I’m pretty dissapointed that my parents didn’t name me Ryne, Rick, Jody, Frey, or Leon. Seriously. They had a ridiculous amount of sweet names to go with.. and I get named after one of Jesus’ Disciples. Wtf.
