It’s the 100th anniversary of “Take Me Out To The Ballgame” and ESPN had a battle of the bands contest to celebrate. It’s not specifically a tribute to Harry, but there is a good video of him singing on what seems to be Cubs umberella-ella-ella-a giveaway day. I wouldn’t normally promote a contest put on by the boys in Bristol, but this one is already over. The final three were Ozomatli, Punch Brothers and everyone’s favorite redneck woman, Gretchen Wilson.

April Hope

April 1991: Pittsburgh

The bases were loaded, and Andre Dawson came up to bat in the top of the ninth.  The Cubs were down 3-0.  I rocked back and forth on the couch and watched anxiously as Dawson dug in. 

“Wouldn’t it be awsome if he hit a grand slam?” I mused aloud.  As soon as I said it, I realized I was falling into my typical routine of willing my woeful team to win.  Continue reading →
