Samardzija Says He’s a Cub

Len and Bob have mentioned multiple times tonight that Jeff Samardzija may be called up the Cubs since Kerry Wood was placed on the disabled list.  They stated the decision of who the Cubs decided to call up would be announced after the game tonight.

This was posted on Jeff Samardzija’s blog:

This is what you dream of as a kid.
I’ll see you in Chicago.

If this is true, it happened much sooner than I expected.  He has posted a 4-1 record with a 3.13 ERA in his short stint in Iowa and has apparently earned himself what will probably be an extended weekend in Chicago.  I never imagined I would see a Notre Dame football player in a Cubs uniform.  Samardzija has brought together Continue reading

Samardzija Update and Cubs/Cardinals

I won’t brag about every Jeff Samardzija accomplishment on Ivy Envy.  Let’s be clear, my man-crush is on Matt Murton.  But I have never owned any Cubs shirt/jersey with a name on the back and when Jeff Samardzija makes it to the Cubs and is issued a number, I will own one.  I almost feel like I should apologize to Ryne Sandberg for saying that.

Jeff Samardzija took the hill in Oklahoma City against the Rangers Triple A Affiliate.  Samardzija earned a win, going over 6 innings, giving up 4 runs on 8 hits.  He walked 3 and struck out 6.  He is now 2-1 with a 3.93 ERA with Iowa.  Samardzija was gifted Continue reading

Wake up the Echoes, Jeff Samardzija

5/27/08 Notes

*  This homestand was just great.  At the beginning of the homestand, the Cubs were 2 games behind the Cardinals.  After going 8-2, the Cubbies are now 2 games up.  The most remarkable aspect of this homestand was    Continue reading

Take Care, Matt Murton

Matt Murton has been optioned to Iowa since Soriano is back off the DL.  If he would have stayed off the roster one more day, the Cubs would have probably won yesterdays game.  Continue reading

Things We’ve Lost in the Ivy

I’m secretly convinced that there is no wall behind the ivy at Wrigley.  Alright, that’s probably a silly belief.  I mean, we’ve all seen the wall.. but I think there’s a door to… the secret garden!  Alright.. maybe not that lame.. but I suspect that something much cooler than just a wall exists there.. And this line of thought got me to thinking about things that are probably  lost back there….   Continue reading
