Well, the Cubs have been playing pretty good baseball, so what can we whine about, damnit? These are just not the Cubs we’ve come to know and love. When the Pirates tied up the game in the eighth inning on Sunday, the old Cubs would’ve rolled over into “steamrollme” position. However, this year’s team responded [...]

My friend James pointed out that we haven’t really talked about Kerry Wood’s blister issue much yet. Many Cubs fans are wondering how it is possible that he has been sidelined with this blister since June 11th. In my opinion, there have to be factors other than baseball involved.

Ever since the All-Star break, it seems that we never know which bat the Cubs hitters will swing on a particular day. Too often it has been the ice bat, and quality starts are being wasted.

Tomorrow night we embark on the 2nd half, and it looks like Ted Lilly will get a chance to make up for his last start in which he allowed 4 ER and only lasted 2.2 innings. I am excited for the rest of this season. Seeing the Cubs pitchers do well against the best of [...]

One of the most exciting aspects of the Cubs-Giants emotional roller coaster yesterday was the performance of Rich Harden. He was a strikeout machine, fanning 10 batters in 5+ innings pitched. Before, when kids in Chicago heard the word “Harden,” they thought of a move their metapod pokemon could do that would add +1 to [...]

In a move designed to keep all bugeaters in Nebraska and California, the Cubs have shipped Sean Gallagher, Matt Murton, Eric Patterson, and Josh Donaldson off to Oakland for Rich Harden and Chad Gaudin.
Either someone at MLB.com is a Photoshop champ, or Gallagher’s “bring me a bowl of Life Cereal” grin was no one-time [...]

Traveling across the river to watch the fireworks in Bettendorf threw a monkey wrench into our typical Cubs-viewing routine. We had to discontinue our television viewing just after Edmonds received his standing ovation from the St. Louis crowd before his first at-bat (ho-hum). A small, portable radio informed us of Soto’s hardball home run as [...]

Let’s talk about the defensive play of the Cubs yesterday. Most articles I read focus on Dempster’s poor performance, but let’s not forget the fielding mistakes that cost the Cubs runs. When the score was still 0-0, Patterson caught a fly ball and very slowly and nonchalantly tossed it back in while one of the [...]
