Pitching

As I watched the Cubbies play the Cardinals last night, all I could think of was what about the pitching. Fukodome was a great addition, and it’s apparent that his presence has certainly added a new dimension(and more hitting for all) to the Cub’s lineup. But, good teams win championships with consistent pitching.   The starting rotation, and questions with some of the bullpen members will likely be fateful for the 2008 Cubs. How nice it would have been to have had Santana in the rotation. But thank goodness we didn’t go after Barry Zito a year ago.

Hopefully, the pitchers will develop as the year continues. Should Kerry Wood figure it out in the bullpen, Hill get back to old form, Marquis have a marquee 1st half giving way to Lieber in the 2nd half, well, good things could happen. Fox to end the game, sounds like a disaster to me, a reminiscent of some of the old days, and the loosing ways. There’s just so many old war horses with scars from the disabled list a team can have.

I hope I eat these words, but………..The Cubbies will go as far as their pitching carries them.
